Ventura County Jails
When a person is arrested in Ventura County they will usually be
booked at one of the following jails or police departments. When housed
a defendant will be taken to either the Main County Jail or the Santa Maria
Jail. The Santa Maria Jail Facility is a remote booking facility, which
houses inmates for up to 96 hours. Inmates here are held temporarily until
released or transferred to the Main Jail in Ventura. This jail accounts
for approximately 32% of total county bookings. The Ventura County
Main Jail is a secure correctional facility holding pre-trial detainees
as well as male and female sentenced inmates. The Main Jail receives new
bookings directly from Sheriff's Patrol and other south coast police agencies
such as the Ventura Police Department, the University Of California
Police Department, and the California Highway Patrol. Detainees from the
Santa Maria Branch Jail are routinely transported to and housed in the
Main Jail.
Ventura County Sheriff - Main Jail
800 South Victoria Avenue
Ventura, CA (805) 654-3335
The operation of the Ventura County Sheriff Jail is within the Detention
Services Division. The unique design of this medium security facility has
allowed the Ventura County Sheriff to keep staffing costs to a minimum.
It allows services to be brought to the inmates and provides the flexibility
to accommodate an inmate population of up to 890 inmates.
The Ventura County Sheriff is entrusted with the safety and care of inmates
who are awaiting or currently going through trial. When a suspect is arrested,
he/she is brought to the Ventura Police Department or Ventura County Jail
for booking. This consists of fingerprinting, photographing, and classifying
the Inmate based on his/her crime and, if applicable, behavior while previously
in custody. Inmate classification is one of the most important functions
within the Ventura County Jail, as it prevents inmates with different levels
of criminal sophistication from interacting with each other.
The facility is staffed by 231 safety and general personnel. This group
of dedicated individuals provide all mandated services while maintaining
inmate and staff safety. The Ventura County Jail Food Services Division
prepares over 3,000 meals daily, including meals for those inmates housed
at the Work Furlough unit and Juvenile Hall. The kitchen staff at the Ventura
County Jail prepares over two million meals a year.
Ventura County Sheriffs - Todd Road Jail Facility
600 South Todd Road
Santa Paula, CA (805) 654-3335
Under the Detention Facility Master Plan adopted by the County of Ventura
in 1990, the Ventura County Sheriffs Todd Road Jail is designed to accommodate
expansion. At full build-out, 2307 inmates may be housed at this facility.
The decision to build a single inmate housing cluster came about as a result
of a critical need for additional jail space and ongoing fiscal limitations.
As it now stands, the Todd Road Jail has a design capacity of 784 inmates.
Staffing requirements of this facility combine the use of both sworn and
civilian employees. The Todd Road Jail will house only sentenced inmates.
In keeping with a long-standing Ventura County Sheriffs Department philosophy
of providing opportunities to inmates, a variety of educational substance
abuse, and vocational development programs are offered to all inmates.

minimum classification female inmates who work in various capacities within
the secured environment, including: laundry, kitchen, landscaping and janitorial
services. In addition, female inmates participate in a number of programs
provided by Inmate Services, including: "Project Discovery," an
alcoholic and drug abuse recovery program. The housing capacity for the "Lower
Facility" is 101 inmates.
The "Upper Facility" was constructed in 1977 for use as a medium
